प्रवाह

एक दिन

इस्पात के पंखों पर सवार हो

एक आवारा झोंका बह निकला-

चटक मन-मोदकों से सामंजस्य बनाने |

उस दिन भी उसे तकाज़ा ही रहा

अपनी तजरबाकार अंगुलियों की तरह

जिन्होंने बेहद सलीके से उकेर दी थी-

किसी मृदुमन पर अविरत अपार संचेतना |

बहुत सघन थी उसकी बादबानी

बहुत मगरूर वो उसकी उड़ान

उम्मेद से परिपूर्ण, दिलचस्प-

क्षितिज तक का सफर जो था नापने को |

और रूह….मानो कोई अवाच लिपि थी

तिरोहित, पर हर आपा-धापी में हर्षोन्मत्त

बरबस सारभूत बहने को व्याकुल-

नीरव निस्तब्ध, सब कहने को आतुर…

अरसे तक बस ठहरी सी रही

संजीदा, अभ्यंतर आगोश में छुपाए हुए

लापरवाह सी न जाने कितनी दुपहरियाँ-

अमुक्त तीखे-रुचिर वादों से अलंकृत…

खूब कस कर के बांधे रही वो,

रक़ीब सी अपने अरमानों की पोटली

एक कतरा भी उसके शऊर का-

डगमगाया नहीं, हिचकिचाया नहीं |

वो भी एक दौर था.

अनपेक्षित संघर्ष का.

सब उलझा हुआ, बहका रहा-

अवलंबित, फिर भी स्तंभित |

आखिर, जब यथार्थ के तमाम मानकों पर

शिद्दतों की निश्चायक आज़माईश हुई

स्नेह-सिंचित उस दरख़्त को रिहा कर-

रूह अंततः क्रमशः मद्धम प्रवाहित हुई |

In the outskirts of Delhi, a shy little girl around six years old bartered to buy a copy of Shakespeare’s ‘As You Like It’ from the cousin who was going to sell it to the junk-dealer. Though that book cost her all her marbles that day (a total of 47), what she got in return was a gift for lifetime- an association with words. Hoping to delve deeper into the realm of words and literature, after a degree in Economics and Education, she went on to obtain Masters Degree in English Literature to be trained to understand various aspects of a text/literature with an unbiased, critical and inquisitive approach. A belief was then instilled that there is a lot more to be explored, examined and formulated. The journey thus continued- from the little lanes of her village to becoming an officer with the Government of India, from English Literature to pursuing degrees in Sociology and Psychology. Throughout the journey, words- written as well as waiting to be written- remained her companions. The shy little girl may have grown up to become a thoughtful, believing individual finding her way in the by-lanes of life, her affair with strings of words continues. She writes with the name ‘Rooh’.
